PLATE NO. 013Canis lupus familiaris
Siberian Husky
FIG. 013

Specimen

Siberian Husky

Developed over 3,000 years ago by the Chukchi people of northeastern Siberia to pull light loads across vast frozen distances, the Siberian Husky is endurance personified. Friendly to nearly everyone (a useless guard dog), vocal in 'woo-woo' rather than barks, and infamous for escape attempts. Needs 2+ hours of vigorous daily exercise — under-exercised Huskies destroy homes. Sheds dramatically twice yearly. A spectacular dog for cool-climate athletes; a disaster for sedentary owners.
