PLATE NO. 025Canis lupus familiaris
Samoyed
FIG. 025

Specimen

Samoyed

Bred by the nomadic Samoyedic people of Siberia 3,000 years ago for reindeer herding, sled pulling, and (uniquely) sleeping with the family for warmth, the Samoyed retains its uncanny human-bond to this day. The famously upturned mouth corners — the 'Sammy smile' — prevent drool from freezing. Spectacularly fluffy white double coat, friendly with everyone, including kids and strangers. The cost: epic seasonal blowouts, intolerance to heat, and a tendency to howl when bored or left out.
