PLATE NO. 001Canis lupus familiaris
Golden Retriever
FIG. 001

Specimen

Golden Retriever

Bred in 1860s Scotland by Lord Tweedmouth to retrieve waterfowl, the Golden Retriever combines a soft mouth with a soft heart. Famously friendly to strangers, gentle with children, and brilliant at picking up training, they thrive on company and water play. Today they top global popularity charts and serve widely as guide and therapy dogs, but their devotion comes paired with separation anxiety if left alone too long.
