Bichon Frise

A Mediterranean toy breed dating back at least to the 14th century, the Bichon Frise was beloved by French royalty (especially Henri III, who carried his in a tray around his neck) and later became a Parisian circus dog. Today's Bichon is a cotton-ball cheerful 5 kg companion with a non-shedding curly coat that suits allergy-prone households. The downside is intense separation anxiety: they were bred to be in human company every waking moment and struggle if left alone. Professional grooming every 4–6 weeks is required.
